The Bruce Museum, Greenwich’s world-class community-based art and science institution, is immersed in a transformative $60 million capital expansion plan, soon to be highlighted by the new construction of the contemporary and spacious William L. Richter Art Wing and its leading-edge galleries and inventive public spaces to educate entertain, and enchant the community’s increased demand for an even greater museum. With its Endowment growing by $15 million, the reimagined Bruce will be enjoyed and sustained for generations to come.
After several years of planning and an ongoing, community-wide fundraising effort, leaders of the Campaign for the New Bruce announced the start of construction on October 2020 for the centerpiece of the Bruce Museum’s expansion project: a three-story, 43,000-square-foot addition that will more than double the size of the Museum, adding state-of-the-art exhibition galleries for art and science and new education and community spaces, including a restaurant and an auditorium.
The new addition will feature the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Education Wing, as well as the William L. Richter Art Wing, including vastly expanded accommodations for changing art exhibitions and, for the first time, significant space to show the Museum’s permanent art collection in four new galleries. The entire ground floor - with a brand new store and tantalizing restaurant - of the new addition will be free and open to the public during Museum operating hours and available for special-event use by local community groups, families, and businesses.

The Campaign for the New Bruce will double the size of the existing Museum, more than tripling its space for science, add state-of-the-art exhibition, education and community spaces, and dramatically expand the art and science collections to be featured in spacious, modern galleries with storage capacity for its increasing treasures.
Imagine visiting the New Bruce, with its entire, naturally illuminated first floor, open to the public free of charge, including a beautiful new Museum Store, Lecture Hall, welcoming Restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, and flexible spaces to rent for business and personal use… from conferences to weddings and bar-mitzvahs, and meetings and celebrations of all kinds.
Highlighting the New Bruce will be its extraordinary Art and Science Galleries, designed to excite, educate and invigorate your spirits and imagination. Diverse collections, some recently donated by devoted Bruce supporters, will inspire you and tempt you to return, again and again. The New Bruce campus will feature a Sculpture Garden, landscaped walking paths and inviting spaces for relaxation and contemplation… natural enhancements to Bruce Park.
The new Steven & Alexandra Cohen Education Wing will host over 50,000 students each year from Fairfield and Westchester counties, and from Greater New York City’s public schools, making outstanding art and science education available to all. The Bruce Museum will be an even better education center than ever, welcoming learners of all ages, and overseen by the Bruce’s highly skilled educators and docents.
